Breakfast

Yesterday over MSN, WSL said she missed eating Chao Mien, the HK style. I told her can get from any cafe in KL but she claimed the one from HK style cafe is expensive and not nice.

Our topic moved to breakfast and she asked why I didn’t take my brekkie at home. I told her there’s only bread at home and I hate bread. Our daily breakfast menu is quite wide. Everyday,we eat $1.20 nasi lemak, lontang, soto, wanton mee, fishball noodle, porridge, fried economic meehoon, etc

So this is what I had for today. Fried meehoon mixed with mien (80 cts) with additional ingredient a fried half cooked egg and a fish fillet. One bowl of hot peanut porridge ( 80 cts) as well.

Qun Zhong Restaurant

This is our favourite all time restaurant for Xiao Loong Pao in Singapore. Whenever we have guests from overseas, we sure bring them there to try.

My fav soup. I usually order the one without the noodle.

Both girls love the noodle above. In fact, they both share a bowl and managed to finish almost all of it.

The above pancake is the best pancake I ever eaten. The redbean paste is not too sweet and the skin is crispy and just nice.

The tong yun with filling, peanut and sesame filling. The clear soup comes in 2 flavour; namely rose syrup or osmanthus  syrup. The soup is nice and not sweet. Hallie drank 1 bowl without the tong yun.

Hoarding Formula & Diaper

This post is inspired by busybee about sky rocketing formula milk prices. Those non breast feeding babies like both my darlings, each month your parents spend hundreds on simple items like formula and diapers. My kids are cloth diapered during the days and only use disposable at night.

Let me show you what is hoarding. Please do not inform Nestle nor Abbott on this, ok?

Mother’s Day Gift

Kyrie brought this back from school on Friday. “For you, mommy. I made 1.” So sweettttt……

The Poem

Every year we will go out to celebrate Mother’s Day except last year where I just finished my confinement. This year Papa brought us to Pasta Shop. This shop specialized in japanese style pasta/spaghetti. Every year, I’ll bring my maid along to celebrate Mother’s Day because she’s a mother too. This year, our new maid is a single but we decided to continue this practice.

Papa said this year’s bill will be paid from Kyrie’s pocket money. Hahhaa, she doesnt know much about the concept of money and happily say, “yeah yeah”.

Above is shoyu-braised pork, also the shop “chew pai choy”

The above appetizer was lotus chip. Nice and Kyrie loves it. We also ordered a potatoes salad that came with some pork bacon. Nothing to shout about!!

Popo had something like the above photo except hers is fresh oysters. My maid had a seafood chili pasta which she liked it very much.

What about Mei-Mei? I ordered a mushroom, tofu miso soup for her, but since she had her cereal before we left home, she wasnt that hungry and didnt eat much.

After our late lunch, we went to Borders Bookshop where Kyrie sat at a corner and “read” book. She claimed she can read and asked us not to disturb her!! *Eyes wide*

Hong Kong Makan Makan Update

Hong Kong Dessert

Hui Lau Shan – Dessert Chain (All over HK)

Famous for its mango desserts. Papa Wong prefers their mango drinks instead. Mommy still prefer warm dessert.

Mango in coconut milk

Mango in coconut milk

Birdnest in coconut.

Birdnest in coconut.

Both desserts were nice but cant take too much. Very “lau” after a while. Probably all the coconut milk. This dessert chain also serve snacks like curry fishballs, yam cake, etc. Instead of trying these in these chain, both Papa and Mommy ate from stalls fr street. Ahh……taste much better with all the germs, dusts, etc..:P

We also tried dessert from another dessert shop in Mongkok but forgot to take pictures. Mommy had the Chestnut paste and Papa took the Gingko Barley. The chestnut paste is heavenly. Not too sweet and smooth. The English translated menu written as “Minced Chestnut”. Papa asked, “You sure you want to order something minced?” My answer, “Don’t worry. After a few days in HK, I roughly can understand HK’s translated english.”

Besides the standard breakfast set, the steamed milk and egg are really nice. Soooo smooth. If they have a branch here, I’ll eat there EVERYDAY.

We also ate at one of those HK’s cha chan teng chains called Cafe De Coral (http://www.cafedecoralfastfood.com) . Is everywhere and the food is ok. Clean and fast service.

I ordered the above for Kyrie, thinking that is fried rice. When the waitress served us, I was shocked to see her “fried rice” came in a claypot. Thank God she loves it.

For once, the english description was correct and it did look like fried rice to us.
Note: MUST TRY their portugis eggtart. We bought 2 for takeaway because we were too full. When we reached hotel later, Kyrie ate all 2 and only let Papa and mommy one bite each.

Bali 4-6th Jan

I went to Bali on a company trip without Papa and Kyrie. 2nd time I left home without my baby, but the 1st was my biz trip to KL and during that time she was much younger and cant tell the different. Now is different…..coz all her activities must involved MOMMY. Mommy must sit next to her during dinner and put her to sleep every night. She wont allow my maid nor Popo to pat-pat her!!

Anyway, I worried for nothing. She didnt look for me except for the 1st day. Subsequently, whenever Kakak/Popo asked her, “Where’s mommy?” Her classic answer, “OPIS”

She seems to understand and know that I’m away. During the weekend, she much “guai” and allow my maid to pat her to sleep at night without any fuss!!

Little highlights on my short trip:

Harris Kuta Resorts.

Chilling over coconut juice in Ubud. All my chee muis from my “opis”

“Dirty Duck” . Best duck meal I ever had besides the normal roast duck. Half a duck with veggie cost Rp63,000. (SGD10) We also ordered 3 additional apetisers: Calamari, chix wings and fried spinach Balinese style. Love the spinach as well. Total cost per person was Rp100,000 inclusive of 1 fruit juice and taxes.

Colleague’s sambal prawn. He doesnt take duck!!

Our Rp100,000 Seafood dinner @ Jimabaran courtesy from our “generous” boss..:P No lobster!! Ceh!!

Donuts

What’s so special on donuts? I was never that curious until I read one of Kenny Sia’s entry on donuts. How he actually hand carried 2 dozens donuts from Indonesia and how the donut melt in his mouth!!!

Since then, I always that curious. Can a donut really make people go mad? I read and heard stories on people queue for hours just to get some donuts from a stupid shop in Raffles City, Singapore. I ever said it out loud, “Please, I will never do that in my entire life!!” Guess I got to eat my own words. I really cant take the curiosity anymore and actually went to queue for those damn donuts on Tues!!! :P

I was well prepared. I brought along with me a novel and a bottle of water. I spent exactly TWO hours and THIRTY minutes for 2 dozens donuts. That’s the max a person can buy!!!

Verdict:

1. First bite, wahhhh……..really nice wor.

2. Second bite, getting abit too sweet for my tasting.

3. Third bite, damn is only DONUTS!!!! Why the hell I actually keep thinkin about it and even did a “google” on donuts!!

CONCLUSION: I”M NUTS!!! This Si-lai is really EAT FULL NUTHING TO DO!!!
